Resumen

Throughout history, humankind has experienced several disruptive industrial revolutions. All of these stages have been notorious for their profound impact in the nature of labor activities, ethical discussions, and socioeconomic transformation. During the last five decades, but particularly at the beginning of the 21st century, a set of technological innovations, the massive production and use of information, as well as a huge increase in processing computation technological capabilities contributed to the rebirth of artificial intelligence (AI) as a potential generator of a new industrial revolution. Artificial intelligence is considered a technology capable of mimicking, reproducing, and enhancing certain intellectual human abilities, becoming a very powerful tool in countless activities, but also representing a potential threat for all the ethical implications behind its implementation. As a result, numerous companies and organizations around the world as seeking to understand and utilize AI to remain competitive in this new technological field, therefore a managed transitions towards the adoption of AI is in order. This is how AI is arriving to the dominion of innovation management and it is experiencing a fundamental transformation. As a new emerging and rapidly expanding technology, AI is interacting with companies and organizations, it is being implemented to interact and enhance processes and activities on a regular basis. Innovation management (IM) is not the exception. AI is showing promising capabilities and many use cases that seem to be susceptible to be exploited by organizations in order to facilitate, expedite and improve their IM capabilities. However, the introduction of AI is not free of challenges and roadblocks, its insertion within the organizations requires careful study and analysis. Consequently, this research work contains an artificial intelligence innovation assistant model, that comprises key and core elements of AI that are incorporated into the standard innovation management processes of companies worldwide. Also, as a derivation of this model, an AI value proposition model is presented, following a defined methodology to demonstrate a use case that is susceptible to be utilized to empower organizations by leveraging AI.

The current research project is based on an exploratory and demonstrative investigation of the phenomenon of a new technology (artificial intelligence) that seems to be driving a new paradigm comprehension of innovation processes and practices. Due to the novelty of the topic, an initial and introductory glimpse on this new and emergent knowledge field is in order.

Finally, we glimpse tentative future research areas where further work is needed to develop a more detailed contribution to specific use cases, as well as a deeper and refined development of algorithms to allow the transition from generic adaptive descriptions to specific mathematical statements.
