The museum is approached as a visibilization mechanism, which sacralizes, legitimizes and makes a spectacle of relations between nature and culture. The results of researches around the discourses about the relations society/nature/culture places in museographic mechanisms are presented. In particular, the symbolic —spatial, visual, textual—representation of the relationship between diverse discursive constructions of “the nature” and “the Mayans” in the museographic spaces of Quintana Roo, Mexico; and the resource of the spectacle is recognized as a central strategy in the museumdispositive, which in one context works for legitimization of the hegemonic discourse of a self-evident sustainability associated to the Mayansof the past, and in another context subverts the proposed order and confronts the representation of the Mayansbuilt from the western colonization of knowledge.
